Rotary Club of Reading

The Mayor of Reading speaks to the Club

Her life in Reading began in Liebenrood Road where she was born. After her marriage, in which she and her husband produced 3 children and she is now a very proud grandmother. Her working life took in Lloyds Bank and working for MFI in the kitchen planning. Rose is dedicated to helping in the community and has volunteered in many charities over the years. She is also a trustee to over 6 charities, but not content with that, Rose is an also a member of a Samba Band based in Reading!
This term as Mayor began in May 2017 with a visit to a football match at Wembley - a first for our Mayor! Many appointments followed including a Korean Day, representing soldiers from our town who found themselves in Korea during the troubles out there. An enjoyable trip to Reading Regatta, which Rose explained is not very well known about - so if you are interested in supporting it this year the dates for the next regattas are available following the link.
Trips in 2017 were as diverse as a visit to Central Swimming to observe the Reading Cygnets, a swimming club for people with learning disabilities, an Armed Forces Service at the Forbury, plus a trip to the Reading Fringe Festival. In 2017 Reading celebrates 70 years of association with the German town of Dusseldorf, to this end our Mayor visited the Dusseldorf last year to celebrate this anniversary. We must also remember that this Mayor honoured us with her presence at our Santa Run in 2017.
The Mayor had so many tales to tell but unfortunately time ran out and it was sadly time to bring the Mayor's interesting tales to an end. Our vote of thanks was kindly given by Rotarian Angela Shields.
